The Humble Beginnings
Fifty years ago, a 26-year-old Jacob Miller Jr. received a surprise that would forever change his life. On that day, his articles of incorporation were officially recorded with the State of Ohio, marking the birth of Benton Builders. Jacob, having worked for a lumber company in Wooster, Ohio, alongside his brother-in-law, had gained invaluable experience in the construction and home improvement industry. With the unwavering support of his wife, Dena, Jacob was ready to take the leap into entrepreneurship.
For Jacob, the dream wasn’t just about starting a business—it was about building a legacy for his family. Guided by the strong values of his Amish heritage, Jacob believed in the importance of integrity, quality craftsmanship, and the strength of community. His approach to business was not just about success in the marketplace but about creating long-lasting relationships with his customers and employees.
Although Jacob wasn’t one to seek personal recognition, he certainly accomplished a lot during his 61 years. His focus remained steadfast on the well-being of his family and the satisfaction of his customers. His legacy is one of humility and dedication, and that same spirit continues to guide us today.
A Legacy of Growth
As the business grew, so did its reputation for exceptional quality and service. In 1993, Benton Builders became an ABC Seamless siding & gutter franchise, which expanded the company’s services and marked a new chapter in its history. This transition was a turning point, reflecting the growing demand for top-quality home exterior solutions. The company’s name changed to ABC Seamless of Northeast Ohio to reflect the new direction and brand.
However, the most significant shift came in 1999, when Jacob’s sons Lorin and Ed took over the business, bringing new energy and vision to the company. With their leadership, the company flourished even further, evolving into the trusted name it is today. In 2008, recognizing the need for a name that truly reflected their family values and wide array of services, they rebranded the business to Miller Custom Exteriors.
Today, Lorin and Ed are still at the helm, supported by their wives, four brothers, and three nephews, making Miller Custom Exteriors a true family operation. The second and third generations of the Miller family carry on the mission of providing exceptional service while maintaining the values Jacob instilled in them.
Expanding Services to Meet Customer Needs
What began as a company focused on seamless siding and gutters has expanded significantly over the years. In addition to our core services, Miller Custom Exteriors now provides a full range of exterior home improvement solutions.
For over 20 years, we’ve been installing windows and doors that enhance energy efficiency and the overall aesthetic of homes. Our roofing services have been protecting homes in Northeast Ohio for more than a decade, ensuring that families stay safe and dry, no matter the weather. And in 2017, we launched Fantastic Floors, our concrete floor coating division, providing durable and long-lasting flooring solutions to both residential and commercial spaces.
As we look back on these expansions, we are proud of how far we’ve come. Our success isn’t just about adding new services; it’s about meeting the evolving needs of our customers while maintaining the same level of quality and integrity that has always defined us.
